| Altre informazioni | La frequenza è fortemente consigliata. |

| Course objectives | Knowledge and Understanding |
| Prerequisites | Knowledges and skills furnished by the course of General Physiology. |
| Teaching methods | The course includes lectures supported by PowerPoint presentations. The teaching activity consists of 64 hours of interactive lectures, during which the instructor will present the theoretical concepts of human nutrition physiology and the regulation of energy homeostasis, illustrating their application through practical examples. During independent study, students are expected to acquire and consolidate fundamental knowledge and concepts related to: energy metabolism, energy balance, and energy expenditure; methods for measuring metabolism, including direct and indirect calorimetry; mechanisms of thermoregulation and the role of thyroid hormones; functional integration of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and pancreas; the role of white and brown adipose tissue in the regulation of energy homeostasis; and the neuroendocrine regulation of food intake, feeding behavior, and taste perception. |
| Assessment methods | The examination consists of an oral test lasting approximately 30–40 minutes, aimed at assessing the student’s ability to reason and to integrate the different topics covered in the course. The exam focuses on questions related to the principles of physiology and human nutrition physiology. |
| Other information | Attendance is strongly recommended. Students can make use of the teaching materials (slides) provided by the instructor during the course, as well as additional materials, such as scientific articles, for further study of topics of particular interest. The instructor is available for student consultations on the days indicated in the course syllabus or upon request via email. |
