| Course objectives | KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: To provide the basic chemical knowledge of pharmacological therapies associated with various pathologies. To understand the chemical and structural requirements for drug interactions with key biological systems (receptor and enzymatic proteins). |
| Prerequisites | Knowledges and skills furnished by the course of Medicinal and Toxicological Chemistry I |
| Teaching methods | The course will consist of 96 hours of lectures by the professor that will explain all the mechanism of drug actions, their structures, the structure-activity relationships and the molecular bases for the pharmacological and toxicological activities of drugs. |
| Assessment methods | During the course, two ongoing written tests are held, lasting 180 minutes each, which will cover the topics discussed up to the date of the test itself. The tests will consist of open-ended questions designed to verify the student's acquired knowledge regarding the principles of pharmacokinetics, structure-activity relationships (SAR), mechanisms of action, and synthetic procedures of the drugs covered. Passing these assessment tests exempts the student from the written exam on the dates scheduled in the academic calendar. To pass the ongoing test, the student must achieve a score of at least 18/30. The final grade will be calculated by averaging the individual scores received by the student in the two ongoing tests and a brief oral interview to be held on the dates scheduled in the exam calendar. In any case, the oral interview must be taken no later than June of the following academic year. |
